Woke up early. Thought I’d get to the hospital early. The car battery was completely dead. Everyone in Iowa has jumper cables. No one in St Thomas has them!

I called Budget. Drivers all busy.

“What’s your phone number?”

“I don’t know. It’s the hospital's phone.”

“Where’s the car?”

“I don’t know.”

“What road is it on?”

“I don’t know. It’s a winding road. I can see the ocean from here.”

Hospital sent out security. Got to the hospital. Finished. Went to grocery store.

Car wouldn’t start.

I called Budget. “We’ll send a tow truck.”

“I want a different car.”

“We don’t have any more cars.”

Driver came to replace battery. Battery wrong size. Got replacement. Car started.

Home at 4:00 p.m.

Then the day got bad. I turned on the news about the domestic terrorists in DC.
