Mature men who question their sexual orientation feel that they will sacrifice everything if they come out as gay.
The majority of LGBTQ men maintain good mental health. But compared to other mature men, they are at a higher risk for mental health problems and suicide.
One study reported that 12% of LGBTQ men attempted suicide, 3x higher than for American men. Almost half reported multiple attempts.
Mature men who question their sexual orientation feel that they will sacrifice everything when faced with remaining married or coming out if they come out.
In considering coming out, these men magnify the negatives and minimize the positives. The age of suicide attempts by LGBTQ men coincides with major coming out milestones.
