In some ways, I was lucky I didn't come out sooner. When I first had thoughts about being gay, I was considering where to go for training after medical school. NYC was high on my list along with Chicago and New Orleans.

Had I followed through with that, I have no reason to believe I would have been spared. I would have been young and horny, a tiger released from its cage.

I do miss never have had an urban experience.

I have been to the Town House. I was with someone and so we weren't bothered by the rent boys, although they were very much apparent.

My favorite NYC experience was at a late night bar in the village where broadway actors collected after the theaters let out. Wonderful voices singing show tunes. I was up most of that night.
