If my boyfriend tells me I can’t have a dog, do I want him for a husband?
When we decided to move in together, Doug lived in a home with a half-acre garden.
“I want to get a dog.”
“No dogs!”
“But I’ve always had a dog.”
“Dogs destroy gardens. No dogs!”
Doug and I had the same discussion over and over with the same result. Do I have to choose between a husband or a dog?
Doug fell in love with a mixed-breed rescue puppy and taught the “Gert” to dig holes in his garden.
Now, he has a dresser drawer full of the ashes of all of the dogs we’ve had over the thirty-four years we’ve been together.
