I often comment that family weren't homo-PHOBIC, they (and I at one time) were homo-NAIVE.

Even though I have had some experience working with trans, as an older gay man I find that I and many of my age-peers struggle with some of the things like understanding all the new terms related to gender identity, gender expression, and pronouns. Families must struggle with it, too.

So, I ask for your patience if sometimes I get it wrong. Many of us are working on it, but old dog, new tricks.
